Dear Community Members,
When two communities come together it's frustrating, stressful, exciting and weird. It's like Microsoft writing apps for the Mac, A-Rod joining the Yankees, Jay-Z and the Beatles. Thanks for your patience. OK. So here's the plan starting now to get you two feisty and fun groups together in a timely and relatively seamless manner. We're going to try to make this as easy as we can for you..
Mods and Ops
Starting now, MODs and Chat OPs will help moderate both communities. We'll also work with existing G4 and TechTV MODs to identify certain community members as additional MODs for the new forums. This is to ensure that members from both communities have guidance and leadership in the new forum.
Community guidelines
We'll brief MODs on current procedures and policies, which will be updated to incorporate rules from both communities. In June, the new MODs and Admins will draft a new set of guidelines so the new G4techTV community has a set of rules that represent everyone.
We know it won't be perfect. When you bring two sets of rules together everyone will have to make some compromises. But we'll listen and we'll learn as we grow. With patience, courtesy, and cooperation we can make a new community that's better than both the previous ones.
Here's the plan
Starting now:
All MODs become G4techTV MODs and moderate both forums
Members are encouraged to continue using both message boards
TechTV members wishing to join G4tv's existing forums are asked to do so with the SAME USER NAME and E-MAIL ADDRESS as they have in place with TechTV currently
Code of Conduct and "Member Tips" for G4techTV's forums will be circulated within a few days to all TechTV and G4 members. This will include instructions on how to turn off G4's images and signatures.
Week of May 17th:
New users are directed to G4techTV to register for G4techTV forums.
No more new users through TechTV.
Week of May 24th
Begin to transition all users to G4techTV.com
- Post counts will be imported and remain for all users.
- Duplicate Account Policy comes into effect
*Users with same USER NAME and E-MAIL address will be combined - this is additive
*Users with same user name and different E-MAIL will be provided with the opportunity to CHOOSE the correct account details. If accounts are duplicates, they will be combined. If the accounts are not held by the same person, the G4 member will revert to G4_(username) until they have a chance to change their name.
All shows on G4techTV.com will be represented in the G4techTV forums
TechTV.com forums cease posting ability on May 28th 12AM ET
TechTV.com begins to re-direct to G4techTV.com on May 28th 12AM ET
Old TechTV post history will be made available sometime shortly after May 27
