View Full Version : AGN's Week 13 NFL Picks Post Yours

11-27-2002, 04:13 AM
This is the Final Week of the Regular Season in ESPN Fantasy Football. The only important factors (as 2 of my teams are already in)secured the first

Patriots over Lions - Umm don't even get me started

Redskins over Cowboys - This has gone on long enough. Skins must break this losing streak.

SF vs SEA - San Fran needs to get their shiz together. These losses are hurting only one person...Me Jeff Garcia and Garrison Hearst are on one of my worst fantasy teams. If they have a big day, I make the playoffs.

MIA vs BUF - I would just love the Bills to beat up on Miami again but it just seems so unlikely. They have been on a losing streak in Buffalo and Drew knows how to win big games, so Buffalo against my better judgment.

GB vs CHI - Bears Get Favred, although how cool would it be for them to lose to the bears.

BAL vs CIN - Ravens win.

CLE vs CAR - Cleveland beat up on the Saints, Browns will do the same to the Panthers.

PIT vs JAX - I am rooting for Jacksonville here. Kordell could remind people why he was on the bench. I go with Jacksonville for the upset.

KC vs ARI - The chiefs should eliminate every Cardnial fan from the stadium by the 3rd quarter. Chefs win.

ATL vs MIN - Dome bowl, falcons are just too much. ATL wins.

NYG vs TEN - This could go either way, but Steve McNair is hurt and the Giants lost to Houston, G-Men win.

DEN vs SD - Oh please let the CHargers beat on the Broncos, it's really no big deal either way, but if Denver loses it keeps the AFC crown up for grabs.

IND vs HOU - I like Peytons place. Colts

PHI vs STL - Eagles won't miss Donovan, St. louis season is OVER TODAY, YAY.

NO vs TB - I like the Saints, coming off big loss, and looking to stay away from the run game, you'll see lots of points I predict. Saints.
Monday night game

OAK vs NYJ - I am picking the RAIDERS. Sorry but i think SOJ (Same Old Jets)

Seahawks over 49ers

I'm sad that this is the closest NFL team to me. And they just got a new stadium and everything. Pitiful... i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif

~Steve

EDIT: OMG, I just found out that the Cardinals have the same record as the Seahawks as of now. Now the 'Hawks aren't the only ones who suck in the NFC West. i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif

EDIT #2: Whoops! LoL. Didn't notice you said for tomorrow's games only Scot. Silly me...

11-27-2002, 04:27 AM
i completely 100% disagree with u Scott Rubin for the simple fact that im from detroit and the patriots dont play in too many thanksgiving day games while the lions play every year. the lions are going to kick there butts. My question is why they aren't playing the pack this year oh well tradition down the toilet.i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif

11-27-2002, 04:28 AM
New England at Detroit, Pick: Patriots
Kind of weird seeing the Pats play on Thanksgiving Day, IMO. I think the Lions get weirded out, too.

Washington at Dallas, Pick: Cowboys
Let the streak continue I say! The 'Boys are coming off a nice win.

11-27-2002, 05:16 AM
LOINS WILL WIN or we will get a new coach. It's do or die.

Scot: <Umm don't even get me started> what you don't think they can win. Your team's is in my house now. You have no hope. All we have to do is get a coach with a IQ over 32 and your going down. Hell I will coach them.

11-27-2002, 05:18 AM
Washington at Dallas - Washington

New England at Detroit - New England

New England @ Detroit - This is one sided, not fair.

Washington @ Dallas - Spurrier needs to break the streak, and what an easier target than Dallas.

Ok here are my picks
Patriots def. Lions- I don't even have to explain this.
Redskins def. Cowboys- The skins are gonna have to start winning sometime soon.

11-27-2002, 12:49 PM
Patriots vs. Lions: Despite the fact that I'm your stereotypical negative Boston sports fan, I have to go with my boys. C'mon, they're sporting the throwbacks! (I love the old helmets!)

Redskins vs. Cowboys: I hate both teams, but I guess I'll pick the boys since they're at home. I just want to see Spurrier have an aneurysm on the sideline tomorrow.

The Pat's and the Cowboys will win!! I have faith in my teams!

11-27-2002, 02:42 PM
Im gong to pic the Pats and the Cowboys... I will make the rest of my pics later as well. Happy Thanksgiving everyone i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif

11-27-2002, 04:12 PM
I hate to say this in front of the Patriots fans looking at this post...

I think Detroit will win over the Patriots. One reason being that this is probably the only game that the Lions and the fans look foward to all year, homefield advantage, and a bounce-off victory from the loss at division team Chicago Bears (Da Bears.) would really boost the team's spirits (Which so little they have left.). Sorry, Scott, I predict the Lions winning by a field goal or two.

Being the Tennessee football fan that I am, I am in a loop on who to pick for this game, on one side, the 'skins AND the 'boys beat the Titans in the first of the NFL season, but Spurrier was the Gator's coach, and if anyone knows the Tennessee Vols, you know they HATE the Spurrier and his former college team. So I will have to go for Dallas just for the fun of watching Spurrier throw a hissy fit on the sidelines and throw his clipboard everywhere.

11-27-2002, 04:15 PM
Oh, one more thing. Who agrees that the NFL needs to ditch the tradition of Dallas and Detroit and have some teams with more than one or two playmakers in it? Such as the 49ers, Packers, or even Colts or Titans (very likely Titans, that's just the fan boy in me speaking.)

11-27-2002, 11:54 PM
UrbanWarfareIsTheBESTChoice:

Here's my plan. Simply give the Thanksgiving games to the two teams who appear in the previous year's Super Bowl. Perhaps even make the games a rematch of the AFC and NFC title games. More than likely it'll be competitive, a lot better than watching the Cowboys and Lions get their clocks cleaned each year.

11-28-2002, 12:06 AM
Jim...I loves ya, but when it comes to Football...you...are a moron. 4-11 last week (YOU FORGOT THE DAMN BENGALS!!!), where as I went a healthy, 9-7. (Not here, my leage involves money.) But at least you took my advice and picked the Texans. So I thought I would come here...and show you how its done...but we agree for Turkey Day Games...

New England @ Detroit - NE - The Pats are just gonna make the Lions cry for their mommies!

Washington @ Dallas - WASH. - Man...Spurrier needs to break out of this one...I say Skins by 10.

I would really like to see AFC and NFC title rematches. Maybe this time the Steelers could beat the Pats. Well as long as they start Tommy Maddox.

Thanksgiving Day Games (I posted these on last weeks pics so these should count)

NE vs DET - This was an easy pick cause any AFC team can beat the Lions even the Bengals.
Pick - Patriots . (And they won)

WAS vs DAL - All I got to say is Emmit Smith proved he should be the go to guy the rest of the year and if he leaves next year the Cowboys should draft a RB or free Corey Dillon outta Cinci cause Troy Hambrick will be a bigger bust then Quincy Carter.
Pick - Redskins. (But they got creamed)

Sunday Games

SF vs SEA - I would like to see Springs get an INT off T.O. run it in for a TD and pull out a sharpie but that won't happen .
Pick - Niners

MIA vs BUF - Bills got lucky last time they met the Dolphins Williams will probably rush for more than 100 yds maybe even 200 yds with the D the Bills have
Pick- Dolphins

GB vs CHI - No way the Packers can lose 3 straight.
Pick - Packers

BAL vs CIN - I think the Bengals will keep it close and I wouldn't be surprised if they won win or lose Dillon will have a good game.
Pick - Ravens

CLE vs CAR - I don't care who wins this game both teams got no shot at the playoffs I guess I'll go with the Panthers.
Pick- Panthers

PIT vs JAX - Stewart should have a good game along with Ward, Bettis, and Burres.
Pick - Steelers.

KC vs ARI - After losing to the Seahawks I think the Cheifs will go out and destroy the Cards with Holmes leading the way.
Pick - Cheifs

ATL vs MIN - The Falcons are on a roll and they should have an easy win this week Vick will probably get his first NFL game with 300 yds passing and 100 yds rushing in the same game his numbers for the year aren't great but I think he should get the MVP award cause he's the only reason why the Falcons are winning.
Pick - Falcons

NYG vs TEN - Should be good game might even go into OT
Pick - Giants

DEN vs SD - As a Raider fan I hope both these teams beat the crap out of each other I'm going with the Chargers only cause I hate the Broncos more.
Pick - Chargers.

IND vs HOU - Texans don't stand a chance.
Pick - Colts

PHI vs STL - I think Feeley will do a good job filling in at QB but it will be the D that will win it for the Eagles.
Pick - Eagles

NO vs TB - Should be another good game
Pick - Bucs

Monday night game

OAK vs NYJ - Both teamswere thought to be out of it and they both have been on a roll as of late but it stops for Jets the Raiders need to win this cause they have a tuff schedule after this week.
Pick - Raiders

12-01-2002, 12:06 AM
Oh yeah here's the rest of my picks (I already have them registered into Yahoo from like Tues or Wednesday).. No explanations here as I didn't really put much thought into these..

Buffalo
Baltimore
Carolina
Green Bay
Kansas City
Atlanta
New York Giants
Jacksonville
Indianapolis
San Diego
St. Louis
San Francisco
TAMPA BAY
Oakland

Ok, I'm just gonna pick Sunday's (and Monday Night's) winners, because there is a subject I want to put my 2 cents in about.

TURKEY DAY!!!
New England 20 - Detroit 12 - TO ANYONE WHO READS THIS!!!!! ANytime you see Marty Morningwheg on the TV, I want you to yell out loud..."You ar SO Fired!!!"

Washington 20 - Dallas 27 - Emmitt Smith is gonna be a Raider next season, so Cowboy fans...say your goodbyes soon!

Pittsburgh
NY Giants
Green Bay
Maimi
Baltimore
Cleveland
Kansas City
Atlanta
Indianapolis
Denver
San Francisco
Philidalphia
Tampa Bay

MONDAY NIGHT!!!
NY Jets

Now, about last weeks hit Warren Sapp Laid out last week was UNCALLED FOR! First, the play was the width of the field away! Second, it was a lineman, a slow...fat...lineman. Can someone tell me how in the hell that fat ass was gonna be able to beat out a Cornerback to the End Zone!?! And Finally, after the Game, Warren Sapp openly said that if it was Favre in that position, he wouldnt have taken the hit. So he respects Favre, but not the rest of the team??? Thats a load of (self-edit)!!! And what Mike Sherman said after the game, I salute him for that! Stand Up to him, he aint nothin special! Sherman got himself fired up, he got the team fired up, and he has given Green Bay new life to break this mini losing streak they're on.

12-01-2002, 02:36 AM
Nonsense.. That hit was legal (and the league itself agrees DESPITE all the backlash against increased injuries lately), and if he doesn't make that block and the play goes his way then he'd look like a big fat lazy ass. Clifton is a big boy. Everyone sticking up for him is making him look like a wuss. He should know to keep his head on a swivel after an interception, instead of tiptoeing through the daisies like he did.

MaximusPaynicus
12-01-2002, 02:52 AM
I never said that the hit was illegial. The hit was perfectly legal. That doesnt make it right though. There was error on both ends, but Sapp needs to know by know, or he better learn real quickly, that those kinds of hits rarely result in no re-procussion by the NFL. Sapp should thank his lucky stars, and maybe next time it will be Favre in that position, and if Sapp can take out Clifton, he can bash Favre. But if we are going to begin an argument, may I suggest that we continue it in the "Off-Topic" Forum?

12-01-2002, 04:38 AM
The Eagles did the same thing to QB Jim Miller in the playoffs no less (entirely destroying their chances of winning unlike the injury to Clifton) and I didn't hear nearly as much whining. Only the Packers get away with this sort of crap. One of their assistants literally threatened Sapp afterwards and only got a warning. Classless organization I tell you..

Now 8-2 this week after all the early games.. w00t!!

Make that 11-3 after the late games.. GO BUCS!

I think ESPN analyst Tom Jackson said it best: "If you played the game, you've delivered this hit, and you've taken this hit." I played football for nine years. You know when I learned to keep my head up on an interception? In eighth grade, my first year. That lineman just got careless, and if he would have walked away ok, or just sprained his ankle, nobody would be talking about it. And as for the coach, what a stupid move. So some dude that has never played in the NFL decides to approach another player and call him out? Are you kidding?? He walked accross the sideline, called out Sapp, and swore at him. Coaches are supposed to be leaders, yet all Sherman did amounted to whining. How did it help his team? How did the O-line coach's threats help the team? The comments just distracted from the next week's preparation by dwelling on the past. Get over yoursleves Pack, you aren't special, and every team loses players to injury. I hope the two teams play again, and Favre throws like ten interceptions. Can you say overrated?

Oh, and go Steelers. 7-5-1, with Houston, Carolina and Baltimore coming up. Only question is TB, and judging from their performance against NO, looks like the Black and Gold can take them. Browns suck and always will. Your team is the color of *hit.

12-01-2002, 06:11 PM
Ok, I will admit that I have a bias point of view. I have to wear a knee brace for the rest of my life (after the December 26 Surgery) because of a hit just like that one. And I kept my head, so I am living proof that keeping your head up, doesnt nescessarilly mean that no harm will be done. And Mike Sherman did his team a good thing by standing up to Sapp. How? Because that showed his players that he will stand behind them, and that he actually cares about the game...unlike Marty "You are SO Fired" Morningwheg. And I find that the NFL is full of a certain something which I cannot mention on the Boards, c'mon, someone gets suspended for 4 games for taking a drug found in just about EVERY dietary suppliment, and a hit like that gets nothing?!? All most people wanted was a slap on the wrist, thats it. A fine would have done nicely. (I say fine because, yes, it was a legal hit, just unnescessary) Oh well...they're NFC anyways, and I could give less than a (self-edit) about the NFC. (J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets, baby!) So in conclusion, everyone has their oppinions, and I respect your oppinions, and I understand why you say this, but I disagree...strongly disagree. Anyways, on to the NFL Sunday stuff.

I went 9-6 going into Monday Nights Game. (including Turkey Day), so come Monday Night....GO JETS!

12-01-2002, 11:36 PM
It was Sherman, not Shanahan (Broncos).

MaximusPaynicus
12-01-2002, 11:38 PM

12-02-2002, 01:07 AM
I would just like to say... that I am kicking total buttocks with this. The Monday night game still has to be played... but I already have THIRTEEN correct picks this week! 13!!! Now... the thing that's interesting about that... is I was already doing pretty well this season, but 13 is not something everyone gets. I'm actually doing VERY WELL overall in Yahoo where I do this.

Rank: 1451 of 205681
Percentile: 99th

Season long, keeping in mind the Monday Night-er still has to be played, I've gotten 120 correct picks out of 192.

No real point to this post, just bragging. :-D

i live just outside of KC. i can't believe they won 49-0 over arizona. then again, i don't know much about arizona. but i'm going for GB and IND. those are my favs. at least they can win a lot. so pretty much i like anyone that's not KC. maybe if KC had some defense, they would be alright. but i don't totally hate them. anyway, go colts!

How can you fine someone if he doesn't violate the rules?? He wasn't on notice that his actions would be illegal so it would be completely unfair to fine him for doing something legal. I agree that suspensions for taking diatary supplements need to end, but until the rule regarding blocks after an interceprion change, Sapp cannot be fined. If the NFL punishes a hit like that, it would only be a matter of time before a player intercepts a ball and gets tackled early because his players thought that they couldn't block certain people since they were too far away. How close to the ball does the player have to be before he can be blocked? There is no good answer to this, so no good rule could come of that kind of thinking.

And Maximus, I'm not sure what your hit looked like, but in the case of Sapp's hit, the O lineman clearly could have avoided it had he been paying attention. His head was in the opposite direction of Sapp when contact was made.
