Cut and pasted from my post over in the Ninja Warrior forum:

Super Big Product Fun Show looks like an amalgam of an old TV Osaka show called Yoshimoto Chogokin (吉本超合金) and something else that I can't track down. Chogokin literally means Superalloy. Yoshimoto Kogyo is a talent agency in Japan based in Osaka that produces mainly comedians. Their clients are all over Japanese TV. Nakayama Kinnikun and Hard Gay are part of Yoshimoto Kogyo. I wouldn't expect to see Hard Gay though as these programs are before he hit it big and became a TV regular.

Please do the world a favor and kill off the horrendous and annoying english voice overs on this show, and air it in the original japanese audio with english subtitles. Thanks.

agree completely wonderboy13. i haven't watched the entire episode of banzuke yet, so i have much higher hopes for that, but super big product fun show sucked. i didn't laugh once. it was really a huge disappointment.

when g4 started airing ninja warrior i became instantly addicted to it (and felt very appreciative to be able to get some j.tv here and hopeful that g4 would get some more stuff). i then checked out MXC, thinking it was the same type of thing, only to be highly irritated at all the stupid english voice-acting and complete "americanization" of the show.

i had no idea what to expect from these duty-free shows--if i had known SBPFS was gonna be that same kinda garbage i wouldn't have bothered to tivo it.

G4, if you're going to "bring over" shows from japan, please just LEAVE THEM THE WAY THEY ARE PRESENTED IN JAPAN. don't hack up some other show and give it a new name, DO NOT use 100% dubs (please just subtitle it, we CAN READ), and most of all DO NOT completely change the dialogue, throwing in american references because you (or whoever) think that we can only get jokes if they reference american culture and say things like "dude." these things are all completely counter to the idea of "importing shows from another country." the reason i would want to watch a japanese show would not be to simply look at japanese people, but listen to americans saying something totally different than what's on the show. either remove this show or return it to its original form w/ subtitles.

I am happy there are people who have the same problem with Super Big Product Fun Show that I have. The annoying Dubbing. I am tempted not to watch it just beacuse of the dubbing.

I got the feeling that G4 was trying to imitate MXC. That show is funny because of the voice overs. It sounds sort of like the same guys too.

I'm not impressed by this garbage. I thought I was going to laugh but instead I just sat there looking at the TV with distaste and obscurity. More stupid mindless garbage from G4.

I forgot to mention this show is not a translated show. Infact most of the things they talk about in english aren't even what they are talking about on the show.

Agreed, Super Big Product Fun show would be allot better and watchable if they did it like Ninja Warrior and just put the correct subtitles. Right now the show is totally unwatchable for an otaku like my self, I cringe and grind my teeth every time I see it because it feels like a bad, REALLY bad, anime dub. The sad part about it is, you can't even call it English dub because the people who do the English voices are just saying whatever they feel like, and the worst part about it is they think they are actually funny. If I ever meet the two people who does the English voices for Super Big Product Fun Show I would sock them both in the eye, for the epic fail.

It's a ロケバラエティ番組 (Rokebarietibangumi - on-location variety program) where most of the action takes place outside of a TV studio. The hosts will travel to different places around Japan to try interesting or new things. Sometimes there are specific challenges and the losers have to suffer some kind of punishment. There are times when they are actually trying out new products but it's not the point of the show.
Examples from the clips on the Duty Free page:
The Nas-Tea thing is a punishment for losing a game. You can see the words マジクイズ (maji kuizu or serious quiz) in the right corner.
The thing where the guy is wearing the bra has something to do with a type of diet -- I believe the goal is for the guy to lose a certain amount of weight.

So the show isn't even what they used? They're only showing losses badly dubbed?

I'm only going by what the clips are on the Duty Free page, I've never seen a full episode of the show. I have no idea what they have or haven't cut, just pointing out the differences between what seems to be going on underneath the dubbing and what we see. Had they blurred out the writing in the corners of the screen it'd be much harder to figure out what's going on.

Unbeatable Banzuke is a GOOD show. If anything, that Super Big Product Fun Show should be yanked... and it practically has been. So, good job G4.
