Well, we'll just have to say that the press conference this year beat last year's by a longshot! They weren't joking when they wanted to "create surprise." First starting with the New Super Mario Bros. game for the Wii. You can play as 4 players at once!! To me, I think that's pretty awesome. The WiiFit Plus is pretty exciting, too with the personalization of workout routines. The Wii MotionPlus was a big "meh" moment because we saw this stuff last year; it's just more games to show for it. One of the biggest moments however was Square Enix's release of the next Kingdom Hearts game! I love Kingdom Hearts as much as any other gamer out there in the gaming universe and I love the fact that it's coming out in the soon to be near future. I'm also a fan of the Mario & Luigi series and I'm excited to see another RPG, Bowser's Inside Story, coming out this fall.
As for diversity, Nintendo still needs to work on that. Cop: The Recruit looks to be the most exciting "diversity" game out there.
Look, I have a DS Lite. Now I want a DSi!! All of these games and so little time to play them. Especially WarioWare DIY, where you can make your own games. I think that's a pretty unique idea, until someone comes up with the same minigame you have.
Satoru Iwata gave an important point; there are three types of gamers: Active, Never, and Maybe. Personally, there are starting to become more Actives than Maybes. Who knows? Maybe everyone in the world will become gamers! They gave good points during this conference, but this is just scratching the surface. Nintendo is still working on expanding the world of videogames to everyone, all ages.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 was okay at best. I know the first game was pretty exciting and all, but this one was okay. Yoshi's a new character to use and the world's are pretty much similar. I think this is going to be a good game like its predecessor.
The Wii Vitality Sensor; I don't know to react on this one. Apparently, they want to visualize what is invisble like if one is nervous or their confidence levels. If this goes as a complete success, then sure I'm for it, but for the time being, it's a toss up for me. Also with this they want to make games that will lead to greater relaxation. How will that be possible? I know, as being a gamer for 14 years, I'm 18 now, games have always kept my interest and wanted me to play more, more, more, leading to 6-8 hours of continuous gameplay. Now, I can just find a good stopping place and continue later on. But honestly, I can kinda see a game that will relax people, but for the time being, we just might have to deal with the adrenaline rush.
When was the last time we saw a Metroid Game?? Other M will look pretty exciting when it hits stores on 2010.
Overall: Nintendo's Conference was pretty good. Some of the company's icons have come back and gracing us with their presences once again.
Grade: B+
